Starting point

Nuno had a store on IdoSell, a popular Polish platform. It worked, but it didn’t match how the brand looks on its packaging and social media. The website didn’t convey the craft behind every batch of coffee, and the mobile version and checkout had a lot of room for improvement.

Goal

A store that doesn’t get in the way but invites people in: a friendly mobile version, a simple checkout, consistent design, fast loading and intuitive navigation. Plus a new sales channel, a coffee subscription, and a move to Shopify without losing customers.

Step by step

How the project went, stage by stage.

  1. Step 01Discovery

Getting to know the brand and its customers

Conversations about the vision, a technical audit of the old store, a map of the existing navigation, competitor analysis and interviews with customers of different ages. Finally, a wireframe of the new website.

  2. Step 02Design and messaging

A new message and screen designs

A message hierarchy (craft, freshness, an easy choice of coffee) and designs of all key screens in Figma, consistent with the brand’s packaging.

  3. Step 03Build

    A custom Shopify theme

Building the theme from scratch in a test environment: BLIK, parcel lockers, cash on delivery, BaseLinker integration and a subscription engine with a customer portal.

  4. Step 04Products and content

A catalogue that helps people choose

Flavour profiles for every coffee, filters and a comparison tool, weight and grind variants, consistent product photos and importing customers from the old store.

  5. Step 05Analytics

    Data you can trust

GA4, Google Merchant Center and additional analytics covering customers who decline cookies.

  6. Step 06Testing and launch

    Testing and the domain switch

Test purchases on every path, a 301 redirect map from the old URLs and switching the nuno.pl domain.

  7. Step 07Optimisation

    Improving on real data

A new version of the purchase path with pickup point selection before checkout, automatic correction of invoice data in Shopify Flow, a refined subscription schedule and a fuller catalogue.

Timeline

This is what a store build looks like in the optimistic scenario.

The same seven stages as in the Nuno project. The dots are meetings with the client. The schedule always adapts to the pace of feedback.

A familiar starting point

One coffee, one page. All the options inside.

In the old store every coffee was a separate product, and even each grind size was a separate product. Customers had to find the right one among dozens of similar product pages. Today everything is chosen in one place.

Result

What was built.

  • A consistent brand online

The website looks and speaks like the packaging, the social media and the roastery itself.

  • A catalogue with flavour profiles

Filters by acidity, sweetness, roast level, continent and aromas, plus a coffee comparison tool.

  • Coffee subscription

A configurator and a customer portal for changing the date, the coffee or the pickup point. A new source of recurring revenue that did not exist before.

  • A checkout built for Polish customers

A custom delivery step before checkout: a map of parcel lockers and pickup points, live shipping prices, company invoice details, BLIK and cash on delivery.

  • Automation in the background

Orders go to BaseLinker, and Shopify Flow corrects invoice data automatically.

  • Data from day one

GA4, Merchant Center, cookieless analytics and 301 redirects from all the old URLs.

Hubert moved our store from IdoSell to Shopify and stayed with us after launch too. Every change could be discussed calmly, and the store is much more convenient for our customers today.

What this project taught me

Before launch, check every way into checkout, including “Buy now”, subscriptions and abandoned cart emails.

Compare the entire catalogue with the old store. Every product gets a place or a redirect.

Count data from customers who decline cookies too, otherwise the sales picture is incomplete.
